Vidigal “Bailado”

This Bailado (meaning dance or ballet) was rehearsed and choreographed by António Mendes Lopes, owner of Vidigal Wines from the Leiria region, founded at the beginning of the 20th century by a church canon.
The vineyards are located in the Lisbon Wine Region and greatly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean due to their proximity.
They grow about 30km away from the Atlantic… which for its breeze, is practically nothing!
It was with this raw material that António Mendes Lopes, along with winemakers António Ventura (Winemaker of the Year in Portugal in 2006 and Wine Personality of the Year in 2022) and Rafael Neuparth, produced this Bailado of two grape varieties that are very well established in Portugal.
When we pour it into a glass and swirl it around, dense ruby-coloured tones can be seen.
And when we bring it closer to our nose, aromas of ripe fruit and light notes of spices with a touch of chocolate gently drift out. This is a challenge!
In the third act, we taste the wine and discover that the protagonists of this ballet are well rehearsed and coordinated to deliver a soft, character-filled touch which lingers in a delicate finish.
