This label traces its roots back to the 1920s – yes, a century ago! Grandfather Emídio, newly married, was decorating the family home in Bombarral when he discovered leftover tiles originally ordered for Portugal’s pavilion at a world expo.
Little did he know that his grandson Tomás, a designer by training, would draw inspiration from these tiles for the wine labels that would emerge decades later.
At this Bombarral estate, they care for the land as their ancestors did, fostering natural biodiversity for optimal soil regeneration. With indigenous yeasts and without chemicals, they capitalize on the natural acidity of the grapes and the body revealed in each wine variety.
These are wines to be savored from the outside in, slowly. They add a touch that elevates a meal through their structure and the way they complement food. This Touriga Nacional comes from vines strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and Óbidos Lagoon, halfway to the Serra de Montejunto, fostering night-time moisture retention.
Gone are the days of bulk wine production in the West. Together with Tomás, his brother, Alberto, and the oenologist Rodrigo Martins are key to kickstarting the entire production of these DOC Óbidos wines, which in 2015 pivoted towards a focus on quality and distinct wines with minimal oenological intervention.
