Monte do Carrapatelo

Red

8.75

This Monte do Carrapatelo is on the estate with the same name, in the deep Alentejo, near Reguengos de Monsaraz and the great Alqueva lake.
This is the property where Luís Duarte lives with his wife, Dora Simões, and their three children.
Luís Duarte has been a winemaker for over 30 years, with a long history of making quality wines which began at Esporão in 1987. He was later awarded Best Winemaker of Portugal in 1997, 2007 and 2014. But it wasn’t only in Portugal that his work was recognised. He stands out in Germany in the magazine “Der Feinschmecker”, which considered him the Best Winemaker in 2010.
The 12 hectares of vineyards at Monte do Carrapatelo were planted in 2004 on low fertility soils of great geological variety, where the Antão Vaz, Sémillon, Verdelho, Viognier, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonês, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Miúda grape varieties predominate. All viticulture is based on sustainable practices with cultural interventions carefully adapted to each grape variety and plot.
The continental Mediterranean climate predominates in this area, with very hot and dry summers but with a significant daily temperature range. This encourages the retention of acids in the grapes and aroma development. However, winters are cold and rigorous, and it is this season that concentrates the most rainfall.
Now is the time to travel to the Alentejo plains with a glass of this red!

Cheers!
