Allow me to be your guide on a journey through time, following the footsteps of the winemaker António Ventura, whose four decades dedicated to viticulture have transformed him into a true master of the art. António is like a meticulous tailor, creating custom-made wines that reflect the discretion, elegance, and simplicity reserved for the wisest and most experienced.
The story of this wine, Escadas Infinitas, is marked by a continual ascent, a climbing of steps that mirrors the journey of a young winemaker towards refinement.
Germany was his destination, where António Ventura deepened his knowledge in Viticulture and Oenology at the prestigious University of Geisenheim, recognized as a “great school of whites.” In those times, the 70s and 80s, studying abroad was an important differentiator, especially because Portugal was a country with little to offer in the way of learning.
António’s quest for knowledge didn’t stop there. He returned to Portugal to continue his education at the Superior School of Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Porto, and later, he crossed oceans to the Charles Sturt University in Australia. He shares the opinion that today it is much more accessible for young winemakers to travel and acquire experiences that enrich their knowledge and their ability to create exceptional wines.
During his 40-year career, António has witnessed the evolution of oenology: from the simple goal of “not letting the wine sour” to a focus on multiple factors that go beyond pH and volatile acidity, even encompassing the marketing of each brand.
To appreciate a wine that is the fruit of a life dedicated to its perfection is undoubtedly a rare privilege.
