Bottling Portugal is the motto followed by winemaker João Cabral de Almeida, who works essentially in the North of the country, in the Dão, Douro and Vinho Verde regions.
It is the latter which saw the birth and growth of the alvarinho grapes that gave rise to this Chameleon (Camaleão)
The Vinho Verde region was where João started, continuing an extensive family tradition. His maternal and paternal grandparents were wine producers in the country’s northern regions. But the family connection with wine production doesn’t end here, and of João’s seven siblings, four are also professionally linked to wine production.
The grape-picking tradition became part of his life very early on. While studying at the Higher Institute of Agronomy, he was involved in harvests at Esporão, Taylors, Sogrape and Symington, among others. He later went to Argentina to gain experience in different contexts to ours.
After returning to Portugal, he worked with those he recognised as most valuable, such as João Brito e Cunha and Anselmo Mendes.
Nowadays, he considers himself to have the life he idealised: married to an oenologist and with four children, he is the face of his wines, allowing him to travel and feed his passion for wines through the promotion of his project.
When teaching at the Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu (Viseu Superior Agronomy School), he defends that passion is essential to this profession in addition to technical knowledge.
João continues to accompany the vineyards and produces original wines, which will one day lead him to say, “This was the wine I was looking to make”.
And now it’s time to taste this Camaleão (chameleon). The bottle’s label changes colour with the temperature to show that it is ready to serve.

Aroma: white fruits with floral notes in a mineral, fresh and subtle set.
Mouth: good volume, fresh with good acidity and a pleasant finish
