This project’s story started being written in the 1970s. Around that time, the Brás e Cigarro family, always having been passionate about the Douro region, invested in acquiring a property in the Baixo Corgo sub-region.

The family’s estates are where the wine comes from, producing exclusively from their grapes. This is, moreover, the family’s philosophy.

You’re holding a wine that needs air to release all its better traits. So, when you open it, give it some room to breathe.

You’ll want to savour this experience calmly. Drink this wine slowly, really slowly, just like the Douro lives life. Serenely. No rush.

Here’s a curiosity for you – this is a 2019 wine, a reference year for the region. This means that you have received a wine that lives up to its name: it´s a super wine (superior meaning the same in Portuguese and Eng).

And then there’s the mastery and balance with which the wine was created, making its 15% ABV almost unnoticeable given how easy it is to drink and refill the glass.

The problem is the same as it always is – it’s a wine that grows wings after it’s been opened.
It flies off at a vertiginous speed.
This leaves a difficult decision to be made – store it or open it now?
And there’s another even greater dilemma: with 3 reds of this quality in the same box, which one will you open first?
These are the so-called good dilemmas.

What gives us some peace is knowing you will love this box.

AGEING 12 months in French oak barrels

WINEMAKING PROCESS Grape selection during harvest. Grapes transported in boxes directly to the wine cellar, followed by crushing and destemming. Fermentation took place in an open lagar at controlled temperatures.

TASTING NOTES Intense red in colour with a very balanced nose containing berry, cherry and spice notes. Light floral touch on a background of elegant vanilla and barrel undertones. Voluminous and involving in the mouth, where the fruit and spices reveal a well-managed integration and the tannins demonstrate their firmness. Great bottle-ageing potential, with a long persistent finish.

SERVING / PAIRING Red meats and well-seasoned traditional Portuguese meat dishes.
